Winter Wedding
This was one of those dresses that I saw when I didn’t really need it, but I knew I could/would wear it somewhere. So I bought it and saved it; not to mention, it was on sale! I had in mind my friend’s January wedding, but I bought it over a year in advance, so I figured I would have found something else by then. Fast forward to today, it’s the dress I wore to my friend’s wedding! -I be knowing- Also, buying the dress in advance actually saved me when I couldn’t find anything else, so I have learned to buy now, and wear later.
The dress was perfect for the occasion! It was semi formal and not too tight, so I was comfortable from beginning to end. Most importantly, the details on this dress were to die for: fitted through the waist, calf length, partially pleated collar that could be worn off the shoulder (which I did), a front slit that hit mid thigh, and a tie around the waist.
I was confident about the floral print, but it being black was the only part I wasn’t sure about (wearing black to a wedding myth). After some research however, I learned that is now just an old ‘rule’ that doesn’t apply anymore. I went for it, and I wasn’t the only one wearing black, so I knew I made the right decision! It’s time to rethink the standard of wearing non traditional colors and styles! Otherwise, there will be so many missed opportunities to wear beautiful pieces.
P.s. If you can, ask what the wedding colors are so that you can be cohesive with the wedding party and not stand out. Or you can always go the safe route and wear seasonal tones!
